Yep we are really doing it and doing it soon. Join us March the 19th at 6:00 pm at the “clubhouse” in Tidewater Marina to rid yourselves of that nasty winter apparel. The purpose of the sock burning is to shed your winter socks, celebrate the upcoming spring equinox and enjoy food and drinks with friends, old and new.
This casually planned event asks sailors and friends to bring their old socks for burning, as well as some sort of food to share. Because the planning never goes beyond that, there is always the danger that everyone will bring chips, although in years past, we’ve enjoyed a great menu of German stew, mac and cheese, meatball subs, brownies and much more—along with lots of chips. The fire will be blazing, BYO beer, and hope the warm weather continues.
It’s been a few years since we included the chance for safety flare training at this event, and we have the okay to do so again this year. Please bring along your outdated flares, flare guns, etc. to fire off under supervision. You don’t want the first time you use a flare or flare gun to be when you really need it!
It is not long after that we shake out those sails, wet the bottom and enjoy the waters of the great bay. If you need any information, send me an email (secretary@hdgyc,org)
